HHC High versus D8 THC

The newest cannabinoid on the block is HHC and if you haven't heard, this one is VERY popular!  If you are looking to learn about how HHC is different from THC, how it is made, and what the effects are, then you have come to the right place! The initial questions everyone asks are: “Will HHC get you high?” and “What does an HHC high feel like?” The answer is a resounding YES!  But, before we can answer how it makes you feel, we need to cover a little background info on cannabinoids and isolating them from the hemp plant.

What is the HHC Cannabinoid?

Cannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds found in cannabis, and HHC is one of over 100 of these compounds that have been isolated and created into products that make you feel a certain way (also known as “getting high”) that are taking the legal hemp marketplace by storm. You read that right, we said LEGAL.

The trend of isolating cannabinoids began when the 2018 Farm Bill made industrialized hemp federally legal. From that point, the CBD boom exploded, and we got a big leg up on normalizing plant medicine because CBD does not cause that traditional high that you feel from THC.

The benefits of supplementing with cannabinoids can range from

  • Increased positivity
  • Reduction of inflammation
  • Reduction of side effects from medications
  • Symptom relief from complex illnesses.

Since 2018, the alternative cannabinoid marketplace has blown up and it now includes some delightful cannabinoids such as the super-stars: Delta 8 THC, Delta 10 THC, hemp-derived Delta 9 THC, THC-O, and now HHC. Most of these cannabinoids are legal nationwide in the USA and we can ship to almost all states.

Please check out the SOCIETY Edibles selection for a delicious selection of ALL of these cannabinoids, in addition to some fun combinations of cannabinoids that come in gummies and mushrooms with cannabinoids that come in our tinctures!

Just like most of the above-mentioned, alternative cannabinoids, HHC is found in the hemp plant, but it is in limited quantities. When researchers found that HHC could be synthesized from CBD in a lab, this made the larger-scale production of this naturally occurring cannabinoid feasible.

What is HHC cannabinoid and how does it compare to THC?

Hexahydro cannabinol (aka HHC) is a relative of Delta 9 THC, however chemically it is slightly different from THC since it includes a hydrogen molecule.  Basically, in a nutshell (or in a gummy) it is hydrogenated Delta 9 THC.  Delta 9 THC is the psychoactive cannabinoid that is most commonly referred to as weed, marijuana, cannabis, ganja, reefer, etc.  When the hydrogen molecule is added to the Delta-9 THC, it becomes a new compound, known as HHC.

Most consumers report that the high from HHC is about 70-80% of the high from Delta 9 THC. This is often the same description given to Delta 8 THC versus Delta 9 THC. Both Delta8 and HHC produce a mildly euphoric high, with a relaxed feeling that does not typically include the anxiety or paranoia that some experience at the onset of Delta 9 THC highs. HHC is different from THC because the effects are much longer lasting. This is particularly helpful for people who are medicating to help with pain or inflammation. The longer effects help significantly, especially during the daytime when using more plant medicine, might not work for you.

A huge difference between HHC and THC is the length, or duration, of the high feeling. Most feel the euphoric high effect from most of these gummies to varying degrees. However, the duration varies between the cannabinoids. The HHC high will generally last up to 12 hours!

HHC Gummy Versus Delta 8 THC Gummies?

The feeling you get from consuming an HHC gummy is similar to a Delta 8 gummy because both produce a mildly euphoric high, but the results will vary from person to person.  No two people are going to have the same experience from consuming a set of cannabinoids because the way their body metabolizes it will be different for each endocannabinoid system. However, the one resounding distinction is that some customers have reported that HHC produces more of an energizing Sativa high.  The differences between the gummies are subtle for some people and much more prominent for others.  Many have said that staying active on an HHC gummy tends to come easier, than the extreme relaxation that takes over from a Delta 8 gummy.

With so many new alternative cannabinoids for sale, such as Delta 8 THC, Delta10 THC, THCO, and hemp-derived Delta 9 THC, we know it might feel overwhelming trying to figure out which one might be right for you.  To help you to choose which gummy best suits your needs, we created this Buyer’s Guide to the Best CBD & THC Gummies.

Effects of the HHC Cannabinoid

The effects of HHC vary greatly from person to person, but most report an uplifted mood, altered headspace, with more intention and focus on creative projects. But, for some people, it is easier to understand when we compare it to some more familiar cannabinoids, so here you go…

HHC vs CBD

CBD was the cannabinoid that took the mainstream by storm. When the 2018 Farm Bill was signed, making hemp federally legal to grow and produce products with less than 0.3% total THC, many companies jumped on board to ride the green wave.  While CBD has many benefits like lowering inflammation, decreasing stress and anxiety, and protecting brain health*, CBD is often more so about what you don’t feel versus the affects you do.

You can think of CBD as a vitamin for your endocannabinoid system, whereas alternative cannabinoids like HHC will offer a more noticeable immediate effect. These effects are usually more similar to the feelings of traditional THC from cannabis plants and include full-body relaxation, mood elevation, increased joy, happiness, and deeper, more pleasant sleep. Since HHC will likely make most people feel “high”, it is not very comparable to CBD from a physical or mental experience.

HHC vs Delta 8

Currently, Delta 8 is legal in 32 states, and we ship to all of them.  However, because Delta8 threatens the cannabis tax revenues in states with legalized adult-use cannabis, the future state of legality of Delta8 is in question. This makes HHC a valuable cannabinoid to get comfortable with since it offers similar effects as Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC. The most common effects reported by consumers include the following*:

  • That Indica “In the Couch” feeling
  • Head high
  • Sedating
  • Elevated Mood
  • Decreased Pain
  • Deeper Sleep
  • Less Stress and Anxiety

HHC vs Delta-9 THC Cannabinoid

HHC and Delta-9 are both forms of THC. SOCIETY’s GOLD Delta-9 THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) 1:1 gummy is hemp-derived cannabidiol and THC gummies. These 1:1 CBD: THC gummies, offer those that live in states that have yet to legalize cannabis, the euphoric experience of a “full spectrum” cannabis edible.

HHC and Delta9 THC have similar psychoactive effects. Delta9 THC is the typical type of flower that produces that typical HIGH that represents the majority of cannabis experiences!  If you're comparing it to HHC high, then from HHC you will likely feel a pleasant head high, be incredibly relaxed, and even happy and giggly. Everyone has different responses to hemp-derived cannabinoids which is why we stock assorted options for you to choose from so you can find the right one for you.

HHC Gummy or Vape vs Delta-10 Gummies or Vape Pens.

Delta 10 gummies offer a slightly less psychoactive effect than D-9 and a more energetic effect than delta 8 gummies. Where D8 may be compared more to an Indica dominant cannabis strain, Delta10 would be more like a Sativa strain. Then comes HHC which disrupts all the Delta variants and offers more of a hybrid, including the heady high and body buzz.

We can't guarantee how you will feel when consuming any of these different psychoactive substances but we do recommend starting low and going slow so you can monitor how you feel and where your personal limit is.

HHC vs THC-o Flower, Vape Cart, or Gummy Difference

THCO is the acetylated version of Delta 8 THC. It shares a similar chemical profile to Delta8, Delta-9, and Delta10 THC. The acetyl group in THC-O molecules allows the compound to be more easily absorbed so that more of it reaches your systems for greater cerebral and positive effects on the central nervous system.

THC-O comes from natural CBD extracted from the hemp plant and has been nicknamed the “spiritual cannabinoid”. You may enjoy this cannabinoid when meditating, vibing to music, or journaling, as it offers a more introspective and reflective feeling than other alternative cannabinoids, like HHC.

Is HHC Legal?

HHC is a cannabinoid that comes from hemp plants. It was created through an extraction process, much like CBD oil; however, it begins with the compound THC which goes through a process of hydrogenation. Hydrogenation of THC is successfully completed from a chemical saturation of the hydrogen atoms.

The atoms are exposed to a nickel or zinc catalyst, which converts into HHC. The additional hydrogen atoms for HHC allow the compound to be more stable and to have a longer shelf-life compared to THC. Due to the fact that this process begins with federally compliant hemp plants, it falls under the current legal guidelines of the 2018 Farm Bill.
